The Memoirs of Louise Michel (in English)
The Memoirs of Louise Michel, translated into English, free to read online.
Louise Michel wrote her memoirs while in solitary confinement during 1883 to 1886. They are a deeply creative and poetic exploration of her youth and memories, her time as an unconventional teacher in Paris, as a fighter in the Paris Commune, and during exile in New Caledonia, where she wrote the first French-Kanak dictionary and encouraged the tribes, under their leader Ätaï, to revolt against their colonial oppressors.
